Harrisburg, PA – In light of recent revelations and ongoing concerns surrounding Governor Josh Shapiro's "Democracy Summer Camp" held on July 25, 2024, at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus is calling for immediate transparency and accountability regarding the use of taxpayer funds.
The Democracy Camp, a high-profile, invitation-only political event for digital content creators, has come under scrutiny for its potential misuse of public resources. Although the governor’s office has described the event as nonpartisan training aimed at combating misinformation and improving public understanding of the election process, significant concerns about the event’s objectives and transparency of its funding remain. In response to these concerns, the PA Freedom Caucus is formally requesting detailed information on several key aspects of the event.
Representative Tom Jones emphasized the importance of responsible and ethical use of taxpayer dollars, stating, "The Democracy Camp raises serious concerns about whether taxpayer dollars were used appropriately. It is crucial that every dollar spent is accounted for and serves the public interest, rather than advancing partisan agendas."
The PA Freedom Caucus is committed to ensuring that taxpayer money is used responsibly and that government actions remain transparent and accountable. The caucus urges the governor's office to provide the requested information promptly to maintain public trust and confidence in the administration.
Thanks PA Freedom Caucus. I whole heartedly agree there need to be transparency. First who was invited to this invitation only event? Second, what was on the “agenda”? Third, who were the experts speakers or leaders adjudicating this event? Fourth, who decides or decided what is or isn’t misinformation? Fifth, how was this a non-partisan event show the evidence.
