PA FREEDOM CAUCUS COMMENDS LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR BANNING CRITICAL RACE THEORY REQUIREMENT

Harrisburg, PA- In the wake of constant reports surrounding disturbing trends in education, the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus is pleased to support a Commonwealth school district currently battling against woke government requirements.

Last week, the school board of Line Mountain School District in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania adopted a resolution effectively banning Culturally-Relevant and Sustaining Education (CR-SE), which requires educators to meet fifty new “competencies” regarding race, skin color, ethnicity, gender identity, class, and sexual orientation.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education says the policy must be integrated into curriculums no later than the 2023-2024 year. Line Mountain’s School Board of Directors rightfully belies this policy to be unnecessary and unduly burdensome and has called on the General Assembly to remove the requirement. The Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus supports and echoes that call.

Line Mountain School District is located in the district of PAFC member Rep. Joanne Stehr (R-Schuylkill/ Northumberland), who is proud to represent the district. “I would like to thank Superintendent Dave Campbell and the school board for staying strong against the radical teachers unions and their divisive plans of indoctrination. Parents need to step up and support these individuals who are standing up for our students and not blindly following the status quo. Education not indoctrination.”

Neighboring PAFC member, Rep. Robert Leadbeter (R-Columbia) says the policy shows the Shapiro Administration is prepared to get involved in every aspect of education except the ways that truly matter to students. “Why is indoctrination, not education being prioritized by schools across Pennsylvania? Tools to push back against this, like the Lifeline Scholarship Program (PASS), give control back to parents.” said Leadbeter. “Parents know what’s best for their children and deserve to have the final say. We have examples of school districts here like Line Mountain who stand up for what’s right, while others like Johnstown do the opposite. We must continue to fight for parents’ rights and for education funding to be used for the education of the student, not for the enablement of the system.”
