Harrisburg, PA — The Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus applauds Auditor General Tim DeFoor for his decisive action in response to a recent request for a performance audit of Pennsylvania’s Motor Voter process.
On August 12, 2024, the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus requested an audit to assess whether the Department of State is maintaining an accurate voter registration database, particularly concerning records from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). With only 50 days remaining until the November election, it’s critical that voters have confidence in our electoral process.
The Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus is pleased to confirm that Auditor General DeFoor will conduct this crucial audit. The review will compare PennDOT's Motor Voter records with the Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE System), ensuring that non-citizens are not being inadvertently registered to vote, thereby safeguarding the integrity of our elections and upholding public trust.
“The upcoming election is of great significance, and this audit is a vital step toward ensuring that our voter registration system functions fairly and accurately,” said PA Freedom Caucus Chairwoman Dawn Keefer. “We commend Auditor General DeFoor for his swift response to our concerns and look forward to the timely completion and results of this audit.”
This thorough audit will not only help protect eligible voters but also address potential issues arising from recent changes in voter registration procedures. By aligning PennDOT records with the SURE System, the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus is reinforcing the idea that only U.S. citizens participate in our elections.
